Troy I Bland transitioned from earth to be with the Lord on December 2, 2025, at the age of
92. A life well lived.
He was born September 3, 1933, in Rock Island, Illinois to the late Leala (Anderson) Bland
and Thomas A Bland. Troy went to schools in the Rock Island school system graduating in
1952 from Rock Island Sr High School, RI Illinois.
He married Ida Brumfield in November of 1955 and later divorced. Troy had 8 children. He
had 18-grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 22 great, great grandchildren.
Troy served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, being honorably discharged. He was then
employed with the Rock Island Arsenal until retiring in 1988. Of the over 30 years of service
he received many certificates and awards.
Troy was always sports enthusiast. He was a young boxing champion at the age of 14,
winning the golden gloves. He was football player in high school, a local favorite in
baseball, an avid bowler and later becoming a very accomplished golfer, excelling in it and
achieving many awards. Troy loved to cook and bake of which he learned from his mother.
He baked for his family and many times for church events as well. His baked goods were
well received, much like his mothers were.
Troy was a very active life-long member of the Second Baptist Church of Rock Island. He
served as an usher and actively in the Male chorus until he was no longer able.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Kathleen Bland, Ida Gertrude Walkup,
Vernell Compton, brothers Thomas A Bland Jr, Fredrick Bland; great grandchildren-Troy F
Bland III, Angel Overton, and Dylan Adams.
Troy leaves behind to mourn, his sister Marlene Bland of Davenport, IA; eight children,
Sheila Jones (Lonnie) of Quincy, IL; Joni Overton (Jerry) of Davenport, IA; Doni Kemp of
Denver CO; Charles Bland (Sharon) of Georgetown, TX; Troy F Bland of Aurora, CO;
Jonathon Bland (Carol) of Davenport, IA; Taurean Morrison of E. Moline, IL; Tiffany Benamon
of Dallas TX; a host of many nieces and nephew.
